Easy Readin’
I just received the first DVD of “The Best of the Electric Company” from Netflix and Gavin and I started watching it. It was quite a shock! I forgot how groovealicious it was with all the bright colors, platform shoes and afros.
Other things that seemed odd to me was the use of slang. When demonstrating about how an E at the end of a word changes the sound, they used “crude-crud” and “dude-dud”, it just seemed funny to me. The other thing I forgot was that Bill Cosby was in the cast, and whenever he is on the screen he is smoking a huge cigar! I wonder if they would allow that on children’s programming today?
Gavin seemed to like it and in just the 20 minutes we watched he seemed to finally grasp the concept of how letters go together to make words more than in all the hours we’ve spend reading to him. Right after we finished the show he asked me what words are these letters in something he was reading.

P.S. Check out the soundtrack to Curious George. It’s mostly Jack Johnson (I’m a big fan) plus Ben Harper and a few others. It’s great music and good kids tunes. Plus, he’s got a version of “3 is the magic number” that’s really cool.

I did *cough* aquire the Curious George soundtrack and it is pretty good but Gavin seems to like the melodies of Pink Floyd and the guitar work of Eric Johnson a bit more.
