Someone Call the Helpdesk!

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

What a busy night. Ubuntu came out with a new version so I upgraded my desktop and that went very smooth so I did the same to the server since it doesn’t have as nearly much stuff to cause conflict. When I finished, the Gallery, email and webcalendar were all broken. On top of that MY computer started freezing up and acting really weird, so last night I tried using my wife’s windows pc to access the server but it was too cumbersome for me so I went to bed. This morning I plugged a different keyboard into my computer and it seems to have fixed the problem. I don’t know why after 10 years the other keyboard would start freaking out, must have been all the times I let Gavin “type” emails to his mom.

After my computer started working again I was able to get gallery and webcalendar up and running but my email is working halfass. I can access it with a browser but not with my POP client and since we still haven’t started getting ready for our Halloween party that is tonight I think that’s as good as it’s going to get for a while.
Those damn server admins never know when to leave a good thing alone!

In other news “We have a French maid costume for a toddler,” Jyoti says. “It’s amazing.”

So if you just gotta go to Kansas City

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

I almost waited too long but I finally made up my mind to attend the At-Home Dad’s Convention in Kansas City next month. I kept debating how much it costs and is it really worth it and Aubrey finally told me to just go and have fun.

Gavin and I hang out with a fun and interesting Mom’s group (They are nice enough to call it a “Parent’s Group” but I’m the only one that isn’t a Mom) but maybe I do kinda miss hangin’ with the guys. I think it will be a big relief for everyone there to be themselves without the kids and have a chance to talk about how our days go and come up with new stuff to do. But who knows, the event kicks off with a Meet & Greet at Boulevard Brewery so I could end up spending the entire confrence sleeping in the Hotel with the shades drawn!

Fraggled

I admit I’ve never really watched the TV show but when I heard that Ahmet Zappa was writing a new Fraggle Rock feature film it sparked my interest.
I wonder how it will turn out?

Hockeytime!

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

I went to my first Blues game of the season Tuesday night. The club section seats are very comfortable. I think they are new since I don’t remember them from last year. The new scoreboard is nice, with a lot better picture than the old one but the new LED screen that circles the arena is pretty much usless since all it shows is advertisments. It was pretty empty that night due to some other sporting event taking place across town and I still don’t know why you would pay money to go to a hockey game and watch something else. Just stay home! The Blues didn’t win and didn’t really deserve to win with their lackluster playing but I guess it is hard to stay motivated while playing in an empty arena and the only cheers you hear is when they are showing baseball highlights on the scoreboard.

One more thing. Some people seem to have had a bad experience with the nachos at a hockey game and I would like to say that the loaded nachos are superb! Chips, jalapenos, chili, melted cheese and shredded cheese. It was in a manageable size and just the right amount of each ingredient so nothing was overpowering.

Home Is Where the Heart Is

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

I have been thinking lately about where I live, it’s a nice place, safe and friendly but its in an older part of town, in fact, I’m still living in the same house I grew up in! Thankfully my parents finally got a place of their own. lol

What has me worried is my nostalgia of the neighborhood. I still remember playing with all my friends that lived nearby and running up to the corner store for treats, but none of that exists any more… It’s all old people and rental property and no… kids…The few kids Gavin’s age have already moved and the rest will move soon.
I had always looked forward to walking him to the same neighborhood school that I attented, it was just a few blocks from the house, but due to budget constraints that school will be closed and it looks like I’ll either have to drive him miles away or he’ll have to ride a bus.

I’m sure everything will work out fine at whatever school he attends and he will have friends to play with but it bothers me to devote so much time as a stay at home dad and have basic essentials such as a local education ripped out from under my feet.

Dumbass Parent of the Day

There are so many things wrong with this story I don’t know which ones to make fun of.

Dark City

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

I really really hate this time of year. I hate it so much that I can’t even enjoy the last part of Summer because I’m dreading Fall and Winter coming up. I really don’t know which part is worse; the cooler weather, the cloudy skies or the sun going down so early (and the time hasn’t even changed yet!). I’ll survive again somehow but it just becomes so hard for me to get anything done this time of year. I just don’t feel any motivation and want to go to bed as soon as it gets dark outside.

Anyway, that’s my story and knowing that I only have to suffer 6 more months until the time switches back helps me manage.
