Dumbass Parent of the Day

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

1. It’s a good idea to take caustic cleaning chemicals home from work to clean your marble countertops.
2. Its a BAD idea to keep them in a soda bottle in the back seat of the car where your two year old can get to it.

Random News

I had an interesting day in the car with Gavin and the iPod on shuffle.
The song selection went like this: Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Wiggles, Tool, Pink Floyd, Laurie Berkner and The Who.
Gavin kept asking “Who is singing this song?”
The Who.
“DADDY! Who is singing this song?”
Gavin, it’s The Who, that is the name of the band.
I. WANT. TO. KNOW. WHO. IS. SING. ING. THAT. SONG. DADDY!
The Who.
It went on like that the entire length of the song
Then it was The Police’s turn to pop up.
He only asked about that one once, but I don’t think he pictured it quite right.

Does anyone else see anything wrong with the location of this warning sign?

Oh yeah, my link goes to Freddie, not sure why, I think it’s because the icon on mortal blog makes me laugh.

Meka leka hai, meka hai ni ho

Gavin and I have been spending the afternoons watching epsodes of “Pee Wee’s Playhouse” He seems to like how crazy it is and I enjoy watching it now that I’m older and can look at it differently. I cannot believe that it was on for FIVE YEARS!

I’ve been trying to get him to take a nap for the last hour (it’s now 2:00) and he keeps coming up with every excuse to not go to sleep. “What do I smell cooking daddy? it smells good. I took my diaper off and put it in the diaper trash so I need a new one daddy. Who is singing that song daddy?”

If anyone else needs to know who is singing that song, I installed a plugin on the right sidebar that shows the music I play on my computer. Its kinda neat but from now on I can only listen to the stuff that will make me look cool!

SAAAAAARSGAAAAAARD!

A True Hero (and a Stay at Home Dad)

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

It’s easy to sit around while watching TV and say how you would do anything for your family such as jumping in front of a bus or bullet to protect your family or saving your kids from a burning building. Well here is an article about a Man that when that hypothetical situtation came up and “With his flesh melting and a fog of black smoke filling the house, he sprinted up two flights of stairs, grabbed Steven, 3, and Michael, 2, and got them out of the house. They haven’t seen him since.”

A Spoonful of Discipline Makes the Medicine Go Down

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

Gavin seems to be feeling better today, he’s running around and enjoying the tunnel I connected to his playtent, but he was a major pain in the ass this morning after breakfast while trying to get some amoxicillin down his throat.

I filled up the container and either he would pull his head back or stick his tounge out at just the wrong moment and it would all run down his shirt. After trying this a few times he got a smack on the wrist and a talking to! When that didn’t work I pretty much held him down and forced it in and the whole time he’s screaming “IT TASTES LIKE BUBBLEGUM!!!”

After I finished he got another talking to and a few minutes in time out, after which I explained again to him why he needs to drink his medicine so his mouth won’t hurt anymore. He told me he was bad and will drink it the next time, unfortunately that won’t be until 9 tonight and I’m sure he will have forgotten all about this morning by then.

Cheese Sandwiches All Around!

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

Gavin is sick. This is weird since he never gets sick, but somehow he got strep throat. It hasn’t been too bad, last night he had a 104 fever and was up a few times during the night but this afternoon was the worst. After a trip to the Doctor and getting some medicine in him he seemed to be getting better, his fever was gone and he ate some food for a change (grilled cheese sandwich), he played for a while and laid down to take a nap.

About 45 minutes into his nap he wakes up screaming and crying, this is normal for him when he’s sick because a thumbsucker and a clogged up nose doesn’t agree. I take his temperature and it’s back up to 102 so I give him some Motrin. He’s still crying and screaming so I take him into the living room to lay on the couch with me and he starts gagging from all the snot he’s swallowing, I grab a trashcan, since I know what’s coming next and he pukes into it a few times. It looks like he’s done so I leave to get a wet washcloth and when I get back there is a big pile of what I guess used to be cheese sandwich all over the carpet in front of the couch. I calm him down since he’s worried about the mess he made on the floor and pick him up to give him a quick bath.

After the bath we lay down some more and finally put him back in his bed where he’s been sleeping soundly for the last two hours. My main concern is that all the medicine he has taken today is soaking into the carpet pad. I guess I’ll see how he is when he wakes up and take it from there.

Breakfast Conversation

“Daddy, I need a fork.”

“What for?”

“For my apples”

I’m thinking, why not? it will give him practice.

“Here’s your fork.”

“Now I need some ketchup!”
