The Night the Lights Went Out and On and Out and On in Georgia

Sunday, July 23rd, 2006

I really really REALLY need to buy a bunch of UPSs. The electric flicking offandonandoffandonandoffandon for 10 minutes at a time can’t be good for all my computers. Luckily nothing broke.

Dumbass Parent of the Day

It is really something to be proud of when your college age son wins a scholarship, but when it’s only for $500 you might want to keep that second job.

Parenting Tip #1

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

If you buy your kid some shoes with the flashing lights try to remember to take them off before they run in the sprinkler if you want the shoes to continue flashing.

In other news, Gavin and I went to watch The Blues prospects practice for a while today. Gavin sat still for almost 20 minutes, which is amazing since he was really tired. Maybe I can get him to a game this year!

Here are a few pics of the practice I took with my ElCheapo $80 digital camera

UPDATE: After 4 days of drying both of the shoes are flashing again!

This Week on ‘Cribs’

Monday, July 10th, 2006

Gavin has really taken to the big bed. He naps in the afternoon and sleeps all night. We put a gate at his door so if he wakes up he doesn’t have free range throughout the house but so far it hasn’t been needed. If he wakes up before we do he just stays in his bed until he sees one of us, says “you’re (he’s) awake!” and then climbs down. I never would have guessed it would go this smoothly, now we just need to get the crib out so he has some room in there.

If you’re too drunk to drive it’s a good idea to let someone else drive you home, unless its your 14 year old son, and he’s been drinking too.

“Exciting” Linux Stuff

Friday, July 7th, 2006

Anyone who is using linux as a desktop needs to install XGL and Compiz. Its fantastic! It will also blow the mind of anyone out there who still thinks linux doesn’t have a modern desktop.
If you want to try it out, here is a link to a live CD. Download the ISO, burn as a disc image, put it in your cd drive and set your BIOS to boot from CD. Since everything runs from the CD nothing is installed to your computer. A great way to try out something new.
