Sickies

Monday, March 27th, 2006

Well Gavin finally got sick enough to go see a Doctor. Thats one problem with a man as the primary caregiver, waiting it out before you have someone finally look at it. He has had a cough and a runny nose for the last week but otherwise acted fine so I decided to let it run its course. Friday he seemed to be over it and then Saturday night he started getting a fever, of course he waits until the Doctor’s offices are closed. He was still acting normal even with coughing and fever. On Sunday he actually acted sick so we decided to take him in first thing today. The Doctor listed to him breath and decided that he wasn’t breathing very well so now I have this vaporizer/mask contraption that we have to use on him to help open up his lungs, plus some other medicine. The Doctor said he should be over it in a few day now, which is good. His birthday is coming up and I’d hate for him to be sick during that.

If your two sons are in jail for selling marijuana, its probably not a good idea to raise the bond money by selling marijuana.

Two Year Resolutions

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

Gavin will be turning two years old soon, and during that time as a stay at home dad I’ve done a lot of things I’m very proud of, a few things I’m not to happy about and some things I wish to do better at. This is a list of the things I need to do or do better from now on.

1) Babyproof Gavin’s room. Yes, its probably the most dangerous room in the house. That’s why all he does in there is sleep in his crib and get his diaper changed.

2) Start letting him use a spoon and fork and not care about the mess he will make.

3) Start trusting him more. Whenever we go anywhere I always have him hold my hand. On the sidewalk, at a mostly empty mall or zoo. I need to start giving him a bit of freedom to go on his own or else he’ll never be able to play in the yard by himself.

4) Be more patient with him when we’re out for the day. I used to love it when he would spend 15 minutes running his hands over rocks or letting sand trickle through his fingers. Now I’m thinking, “LET’S GOOOO!”

5) I want to open up more of the house to him. Right now he is “jailed” in the family room most of the day. I would like to remove the gate in the hall and let him explore the house more. Of course item #1 (and 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc…) needs to be fixed first.

These are just a few of the things that have been running through my head a lot lately. Does anyone else have a list of things they want to start doing? Are my ideas too early for a two year old? As a stay at home dad I don’t hang out in a lot of the social groups that moms do so its hard sometimes to tell where I’m at it relation as to what my child should be doing for his age.

If you are going to continue leaving your gun laying on the couch, try to remove ALL the bullets after your 3 year old finds it.
