With the exception of the live-in sex offender and kids getting hit and killed by cars, this is a safe home for kids. Has anyone seen the meat grinder? (more…)
Wow I didn’t realize how much time had passed since I’ve written
anything on here. I was kinda busy for a while. I had a
bunch of computers come in for repair and the wife was away on business
so I didn’t have much time for the basics, much less writing here.
Today Gavin and I went to The Magic House for a class called “Toddler
Tunes - Where Music and Play Go Hand in Hand” If there is hardly
anything Gavin likes to do more than to listen to or play music.
He loves going to my friends house and strumming on his guitars, he
also likes playing on pianos and beating on drums. So when I read
the description of the class;
“Toddlers, ages 1
through 3, and their special grownup will tune into a multitude of
musical activities designed to bring out the miniature Mozart in your
child. Whether they’re hip-hoppin’ with Mother Goose or shaking
homemade sound makers, this workshop is sure to be music to your ears.”
I was picturing a room filled with drums, shakers, bells, and
xylophones. Or maybe they would be crafty and make guitars with
rubberbands or something similiar. Instead we played with
flashlights, bouncing balls on a big parachute, and throwing scarves in
the air. Overall Gavin seemed to have a good time (he really got
a kick out of the balls bouncing on the parachute) but it didn’t have
much to do with music and I don’t think it was really worth $14 and an
hour driving there and back.
I might try going again next year when Gavin is older but for now I
don’t think organized playtime is what he needs. He gets told
what to do and not to do enough at home. I like taking him places
where he can explore and be himself, like the riverfront park by our
house or the Friday morning playgroups we go to.
