Why Mommies Hate Stay-At-Home Dads

o They, like most people, think we’re losers who can’t find “real jobs”

    o
They’re worried we might be better at parenting — My opinion is that
women are better at multi-tasking, men tend to focus on one task and
try to do it as well as possible. Multi-tasking usually means
everything gets done, but nothing gets done quite right.

    o
I’ve heard some mommies say their hubbies might not be comfortable with
them hanging around with another guy (guess that’s a flaw in their
    relationship).

o Stigma: most child molesters are men. Although gender-equality seems to be making progress in that area, sadly.

    o
They wish their husbands were more involved with their kids and don’t
like being reminded that men are, in fact, capable of being
    responsible, caring, and loving caregivers.

    o They hate the
fact that their kid’s Dad is working ridiculous hours and junior never
gets to see Dad and they do not like being reminded of it every second
    they gaze upon your visage.

o They really despise you because
your kid is playing and sharing so much better than theirs and you sit
there confidently while they are continually ‘reminding’ junior to play
    nice.

o They particularly hate me because I can actually explain why the sky is blue.

    o
I’m/we’re not obsessed with junior’s percentile ranking. (She’s
actually doing quite well at 3 and has pretty much mastered all the
requirements for kindergarten 2 years ahead of schedule - that really
    pisses them off!)

    o People love to hate successful people;
especially the one’s who make it look easy. We fret behind the scenes,
they pour out their woes to each other publicly, over coffee, during a
    play date, etc.

o We can’t possible look this good without make-up.

    o
They have to continue playing the Mommy-game. We weren’t let in, so we
gave up and don’t really give a damn anymore. We’ll find our own way. I
don’t think that’s an acceptable option for them (the ladies).

o They’re just waiting for the first Daddy-rights lawsuit to be filed, so they’re not talking to the adversary.

In the Swim

Monday, July 25th, 2005

We took Gavin to the pool again on Sunday afternoon.  Not much
else to do when its 103F out!  Surprisingly it wasn’t very crowded
so we could find a good place to put our stuff.

As usual, Gavin went nuts once he sees the water.  WA-WA!
Pool! Slide!  He walks around under waterfalls and in water up
past his waist and bends over and puts his face in the water.  I’m
not sure if he’s trying to swim, or get a drink, but either way he
seems to enjoy it.  There was a few scary times where he would
fall over backwards and not know how to right himself.  One time I
grabbed him after he fell backwards and he starts crying and saying
“nose owie”, I guess he snorted some chlorine.  We get out and sit
in the chair and 5 minutes later he’s back to “WA-WA!  Pool!
Slide!”

After a while we moved from the kiddy section to the deeper section so
I could let him float.  I would hold him by his armpits, facing
me, and let his body float and move him through the water.  he
seemed to enjoy this, especially after I told him to kick his feet and
even though he couldn’t see it he seemed to have a good time splashing
mommy. (more…)

Time to eat

Thursday, July 21st, 2005

Since Gavin has been eating real food for a while, I’ve come across a
few things that he seems to enjoy and are either good for him, or
convenient for me.  In no particular order here they are:
Dole Fruit in plastic bottles  Easy way to keep fruit in the diet.  Easy to eat and keep in the fridge well.
Ball Park Singles
They keep in the freezer forever and easy to get apart, plus they
are ready to eat in 30 seconds.  I usually cut up one hot dog
with a slice of whole wheat bread and some Kraft Cracker Cuts.

Another thing he really really likes are these Soy Crisps
I bought at Costco.  He calls them cookies, but they are a lot
healthier and since they are so small I can slowly feed him about 5 and
he thinks he’s at a buffet!

These are just some of the latest things I’ve found that he really
likes to eat and are easy on me.  Anyone have any other ideas? (more…)

Is that all you got?
