What did you do with my good little boy?

Monday, March 28th, 2005

Well it looks like Gavin got over his touch of pneumonia and is
celebrating his feeling good by trying to see what he can do to push
our buttons.  He has always been good at leaving the TV and stereo
alone but now he crawls right up to it and reaches out with his
hand.  He doesn’t touch it, oh no, he keeps his fingers about a
1/2 inch away and keeps looking back at us to see what we are going to
do about it.  Its nerveracking!  I can’t really tell him NO!
because he isn’t really doing anything wrong but he is way to close for
my comfort.  Its like that friend of yours in grade school thaat
traced around your face with thier finger but never touched you
“I’m not touching you!!”

The other new thing he does is during diaper changes.  He has
always been real behaved, laying there until you are done, now his
trick is to roll over on his side.  He just rolls over and lays
there LAUGHING knowing you can’t change his diaper that way.  He
doesn’t kick, try to crawl or anything.  When you put him back on
his back he will then roll the other direction, laying very still on
his side looking up and smiling and laughing at you.  He thinks
its the funniest thing ever,  but it gets me mad because I’m
afraid he will poop and pee all over before I can get his diaper back
on.

I know they are minor little things and he isn’t hurting anything, but
his own personality is coming out and it appears he is going to be a
little troublemaker!   He’s too young for that, isn’t he supposed
to wait until he’s 2 or 3?  :) (more…)

An eye for an eye

When the Doctors say that a cornea transplant won’t help your blind sons see, take the advice and don’t kill yourself so they can have your corneas.  It probably won’t be worth it. (more…)

Apple don’t fall far from the tree

Thursday, March 17th, 2005

A school district had a prosecutor summon 582 parents to a meeting to
discuss excessive absences by thier children.  241 of them didn’t show up! (more…)

Are you the Gatekeeper?

Wednesday, March 16th, 2005

I don’t normally talk about the junk you have to buy when you have a baby in the house but the Hands-Free Gate
from The First Years is probably the best thing we’ve bought yet.
Granted, it is EXPENSIVE.  I think it cost about $80 after we had
to get the two extender pieces but it paid for itself the first time I
didn’t have to hurdle over a gate with Gavin spazzing out in one arm
and a cup of hot coffee in the other.

Its pressure mounted so I don’t have to drill any holes and its rock
solid sturdy.  Plus its cute when Gavin bangs his cup across the
bars like he’s in prison.

I give it 4 stars! (more…)

Soccer Dad

Tuesday, March 15th, 2005

If your two daughters quit the soccer team
and the coach won’t let them rejoin a week later when they change their
mind, try to refrain from punching the coach in the mouth and telling
him not to report it. (more…)

Stay at home dad story

Monday, March 14th, 2005

The Sunday’s St. Louis Post Dispatch had an article on
how more dads are deciding to cut back or quit thier jobs in order to
care for their kids.  Reading it got me thinking, out of the
people who come to my site who consider themselves “stay at home dads”
how many were laid off and are looking to go back to work, work from
home, work part time or qiut work altogether.  Just curious. (more…)

Sick and Tired of being Sick and Tired

Thursday, March 10th, 2005

I had to call in sick to work today.  I have a cold and didn’t
want to pass it on to Gavin so Aubrey took the day off to watch
him.  Hopefully I’ll be over this by tomorrow but with all my
coughing and runny nose and all that goes with it, its probably better
that I’m quarantined in the computer room. (more…)

Spam Attack

Thursday, March 10th, 2005

I don’t know if anyone has been trying to access my site lately but I
had to shut the server down for a bit.  For the last few days I’ve
been on the bad end of a referral spam attack and its spiraling the
server out of control with all the requests.  I think I have most
of the IP address blocked but you never know.  The funny thing is
I don’t even have last referrals running any more but I guess the bots
are too stupid to notice. (more…)

Feed Me!

Monday, March 7th, 2005

I’m trying to get Gavin started on feeding himself.  He will eat
Cheerio’s, crackers and fruit puffs all day long, so I know he
understands the process.  Today I gave him some diced apples that
came in a jar, he tried to eat them but I think they were too slippery
since about 98% of them ended up in the high chair.  I’m also
trying to indroduce plates and spoons and am getting about a 0.0%
success rate with those.

Drinking is another problem we are having.  He shows no intrest in
helping with a bottle or using a sippy cup, BUT he will drink juice out
of moms glass!  I bought a bunch of different sippy cups to
hopefully find one he will like.

I don’t know if I’m spoiling him too much or its just the fact
that we only started food at all just 5 months ago and he needs more
practice. (more…)

Spoiled Rotten

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2005

No, not Gavin.  ME!
I finally got my mediaPC finished enough to hook it up to the TV so now
I can listen to my music and shop for computer parts while Gavin plays
on the floor.
The problem is that since I don’t have to run up and down the hall to
do stuff anymore I haven’t moved from the couch all day.  Blame
inertia. (more…)
