Happy Thanksgiving

Friday, November 26th, 2004

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving yesterday.  Aubrey, Gavin and I
went to her moms for some nice turkey with all the fixins’.  Today
I am smoking a turkey in my wonderful smoker
for Thanksgiving at my parents house tomorrow.  My mom discovered
a few years ago that its kinda silly trying to have her sons running
all over to make sure they make it to everyones house to eat, so she
decided to have her Thanksgiving the following Saturday.  It works
out really nice and everyone is a lot less stressed.  My problem
is I made the mistake of smoking a turkey a few years ago so I am now
the official Thanksgiving turkey cooker.  It really isn’t too hard
but it takes all day and I can’t leave the house because every 15-20
minutes I have to put a few more chunks off wood in the firebox.

If you’ve never had smoked turkey you are really missing out, they are
so tender and juicy and full of the flavor of the wood (I like using
mesquite for bird).  I know the latest trend is frying the turkey,
which is good and takes a lot less longer, but it can’t hold a candle
to what we’ll be eating tomorrow. (more…)

Made it through

Well we survived the week by ourselves.  I must have been pretty
busy becauseI didn’t realize that I haven’t posted anything in almost a
week.

Gavin is well on his way with eating jar baby food.  He’s made it
through all the vegetables and we will be starting on fruits
today.  He loves the stuff, he can eat a size 2 jar in about 3
minutes!  I hope he will still eat the vegetables after eating the
fruits, and after fruits we will have to move to the meats.  It
seems like he is doing alright with this considering we kept him on
nothing but breast milk until 6 months, and even then he was in the 95%
for weight.  I’m afraid to find out how much he weighs after two
months of eating baby food.

It so weird changing his diaper and thinking, “Well, it looks like the green beans are done and the sweet potatoes are here” (more…)

Interview With Gavin

Gavin turned 7 months old today!  In honor of the event I set up
an interview with him
, he doesn’t seem to be taking the perks of growing older lightly. (more…)

Just Gavin and I

Sunday, November 7th, 2004

Well Aubrey just left for the Netherlands for business and she won’t be
back until Thursday.  It will be a lot different around here when
she’s gone.  I know I’m the main caretaker for Gavin and I think
I’m doing a pretty good job but without the wife here at night things
will be a lot more hetic.  When she comes home from work she
usually wants to play with Gavin and feed him, which gives me some time
to recharge and to get some things done and I normally can’t do with
Gavin rolling around.

I’m sure both of us will survive the week just fine and I know I’ll
come away from this with new respect for all the single moms and dads
that do this every day. (more…)

False Advertising

Friday, November 5th, 2004

I went to Costco today to get diapers and I saw this giant box of
huggies that said “baby shaped” on the side of the box.  I thought
that would be cool, so I bought them, went home and opened the box and
discovered that they are shaped like a diaper.

I’m pissed (more…)

Quick Updates

Monday, November 1st, 2004

Its been pretty busy around here so I haven’t had much time to
post.  Gavin got his first cold, we’re pretty sure he got it from
his mom.  Its not too bad, just a lot of coughing and a stuffed up
head.

We had out annual halloween party again this year.  Spent a lot of
my free time decorating the basement instead of being on the
computer.  Gavin spent his first night away at his nanna’s the
night of the party.  When I dropped him off he started crying and
crying.  I don’t think he knew I was leaving him there, I’m pretty
sure he was just upset about having a cold. (more…)
